KeNHA announces 33-day traffic disruption on Mombasa Road

Motorists have been advised to plan their routes and stay informed about traffic updates during this period of the disruption.

Motorists using Mombasa Road have been informed of a looming major traffic disruption starting next Friday, September 20, 2024.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), in a notice, announced a 33-day traffic disruption to facilitate the construction of a new foundation for a footbridge.

The construction, according to KeNHA Director General Kung'u Ndung'u, will affect the Nairobi-bound lanes of Mombasa Road, specifically near Syokimau Railway Station, from September 20, 2024 to October 22, 2024.

"The Kenya National Highways Authority wishes to notify the public that a section of Mombasa Road (A8) near Syokimau Railway Station will experience traffic disruption along the Nairobi-bound lanes from Friday, September 20, 2024, to Tuesday, October 22, 2024," read the notice from KeNHA.

The work involves building a mid-span footbridge foundation in the median between the Nairobi-bound lanes and the Nairobi Expressway fence.

The road agency has urged drivers to follow alternative routes and cooperate with traffic officers.

"KeNHA advises motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site," the notice said.

This announcement follows another recent traffic disruption during the Nairobi City Marathon, which led to the temporary closure of 12 roads in Nairobi, including major routes like the Nairobi Southern Bypass and parts of the Nairobi Expressway.

Motorists have been advised to plan their routes and stay informed about traffic updates during this period of the disruption on Mombasa Road.
